Step 1. Complete the Trading Partner Agreement (TPA) [click here].This agreement is between the Provider Office and Agate Resources and should be completed by the office, not the billing service or clearinghouse.  This document states that both parties are aware of the HIPAA regulations and will abide by them.  The provider office is expected to have an equivalent TPA or Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with the billing service or clearinghouse.
Step 2. Complete the EDI Registration Form [click here]. The EDI Registration form tells LIPA who will be submitting EDI transactions on behalf of a provider office.  If the office will be submitting their own transactions they still need to complete a copy of this form and submit it.  There are multiple types of transactions, if an office wants to use a billing service to send claims but receive the 835 remittance directly two EDI forms should be completed to show this.
Step 3. Download the Companion Guides [click here]. The Companion Guides define what information Agate Resources expects in the electronic files.  While the format of the transactions are fixed, the content of the fields are not.  The CG defines things such as sender id number, receiver id number, or what values are expected in a conditional or optional data element.  The office, billing service or clearinghouse should review this document and use it to produce compliant transactions.
Step 4. Complete Business to Business (B2B) testing with Agate Resources. The final step is to submit live test data to Agate Resources. This verifies that the data being submitted meets the business requirements of Agate Resouces.   This may be done by a billing service or clearinghouse if you use one.
